Kansas State Wildcats coach Chris Klieman spoke to the media about an unusual topic after the team’s 29-27 16th straight win over Kansas State.
Besides the win, Klieman said he felt dizzy on the sideline, but it eventually subsided.
“I think I’m (okay) buddy,” Klieman told reporters after the win. “I don’t know, I’ve had some issues in the past, but today I felt really dizzy. And (Student-Athlete Health, Wellness and Performance Senior Associate) helped me and took care of me. I’m so grateful to (Athletic Director) Matt Thomason and (Director of Sports Eating and Nutrition) Scott Trausch. My wife will kick my ass when I get home. I know that, so you can stay here for a while tonight.”
According to the Mercury, Kliemann was treated on the sideline during the first half and was not ejected from the game. He sat in on the field for a postgame interview and praised the team for coming up with a key fumble recovery late in regulation that led to the game-clinching field goal.
K-State remains in the driver’s seat to win the Big 12 title. The Iowa State Cyclones were inactive this week, but the Colorado Buffaloes achieved bowl eligibility for the first time in the Deion Sanders era with a home win over Cincinnati.
The Wildcats travel to take on the Houston Cougars next week before the end of their schedule takes shape. They won’t play a ranked opponent until the final regular-season game against the Cyclones. Other than Iowa State’s slip-up, all signs point to a win-win scenario for both teams.
The Wildcats entered the weekend ranked 16th in the Associated Press poll. It is unclear whether their wins were enough to cause a rise in the rankings.
Kickoff against the Cougars begins next Saturday at 3:30pm ET.
