Texas Tech entered its mid-October bye week with a 5-1 record and a perfect 3-0 start to Big 12 conference play, but that hasn’t been the case the past two weeks for the Red Raiders. .
Tech lost to TCU 35-34, and the Red Raiders were blown away in the fourth quarter, holding a 31-14 lead late in the third, only to see it slip away en route to their second straight loss. Coach Joey McGuire expressed his frustration: I missed the opportunity to play meaningful soccer in November.
“That’s the frustrating part. We wanted to qualify for the Iowa State game this week with one bowl loss. They’re undefeated and we felt it was going to be a big game,” McGuire said Saturday. I know no one wants to hear this, but this is what I told the team yesterday,” McGuire said. “We haven’t won four straight bowl games since Mike Leach, but we have a chance to get there. We go back to 1932, but I know they’ve been playing since 1925, but Texas Tech has never won a bowl game. We’ve never won four games in a row. We have an opportunity to do that. We believe we can beat anyone on our schedule and Texas Tech has won nine games. This is the first time since 2009 that we have the opportunity to achieve that.”
