Brent Pry praises Kyle McCord ahead of Saturday’s matchup

BLACKSBURG, Ville — Kyle McCord is one of the most polarizing figures in college football. However, he leads the offense, throwing for 349 passing yards per game, which ranks third in the nation. Meanwhile, McCord threw 11 interceptions on the season, tied for second-most at the FBS level and the most interceptions thrown by a Power Four quarterback in 2024.

Coach Brent Pry seemed to think very highly of Syracuse’s transferred quarterback in a press conference this week, saying, “They have a very talented quarterback, who is tops in the league with a 64% pass completion rate.” He’s a player.” Pry also spoke at length about Oronde Gadsden’s offensive weapons, commenting on Oronde Gadsden’s superiority and wide receiver depth for the Orange, saying, “I could have thrown that, and (Gadsden) I had a good chance to go get it.” He also said Syracuse has three or four wide receivers that the Hokies “have to watch out for.”

This season, Syracuse has three receivers with over 450 receiving yards on the year. Top receiver Jackson Meeks has 512 yards this season, Trevor Pena has 509 yards and hybrid tight end Orondo Gadsden has 466 yards. LuQuint Allen also gained 274 yards and Umaari Hatcher also gained 254 yards. It’s no exaggeration to say that Fran Brown likes to spread the ball around on offense.

The matchup between Virginia Tech’s run-heavy offense and Syracuse’s pass-heavy offense will kick off on Nov. 2 on the CW Network. In the last Syracuse-Virginia Tech matchup, the Hokies defeated the Orange 38-10, but this is a completely different Orange team than last year, and Kyle McCord had a five-interception performance last week against the Pitt Panthers. will aim to correct.
