Mount Sinai receives $5 million to leverage AI in eye care | Philanthropy News

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City announced a $5 million gift from the John and Dahlia Barry Foundation to support AI research to improve eye care and treatment.

The grant will fund programs at the school’s Ophthalmology Artificial Intelligence and Human Health Center (named after the Barry family), including vision care based on equitable primary care, early diagnosis of eye care, and This includes expanding clinical programs focused on research aimed at Creating innovative risk assessments for eye diseases and health conditions related to eye diseases. In addition, this funding will be used to hire a new director and a junior or mid-career AI scientist.

“Glaucoma research is severely underfunded, even though it has a profound impact on millions of people around the world, including my family,” Foundation Co-President Daria Barry said. “By supporting Mount Sinai’s Eye AI and Human Health Center, we will enable earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment, while making cutting-edge technology available to all. That’s what I’m aiming for.
