NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Greater Augusta Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Alumni Association hosted its 10th annual Health Fair and 10K Walk on Saturday.
They are working to raise scholarships for students to attend HBCUs.
This year’s event was the main fundraiser to provide those scholarships.
The coalition has awarded more than $70,000 in scholarships and made donations to organizations including Paine College, Golden Harvest Food Bank and Jessye Norman School of the Arts.
At the event, the president of the Alumni Association spoke about the annual event.
“Every year the numbers are increasing and if we continue like this we’ll see more community involvement. We want to promote community involvement and wellness and provide scholarships,” Raymond McCoy said.
The Greater Augusta HBCU Alliance was founded in February 2013 and currently includes 22 HBCU alumni chapters.
