LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Updated 2024-2025 flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are now available at Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) clinics.
The vaccines can be given at the same time, and SNHD encourages everyone who is eligible to get their current vaccine to help protect against more serious illness from COVID-19 and influenza during the upcoming respiratory disease season.
The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over the age of 6 months. It is especially important for people who are at high risk of developing serious complications from the flu. This includes people over 65 years old and those with underlying medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, or a compromised immune system.
“It is also important to protect people who are more likely to be exposed to both influenza and COVID-19, such as health care workers and essential workers who frequently come into contact with the public,” the SNHD representative said.
In Clark County, there will be 88 influenza-related deaths and 1,403 hospitalizations in the 2023-2024 season, significantly higher than the 48 deaths and 859 hospitalizations in the 2022-2023 season. In the 2023-2024 season, 47.8% of influenza-related hospitalizations and 79.5% of influenza-related deaths were in people aged 65 or older.
Influenza surveillance for the 2024-2025 flu season in Clark County will run from Sept. 29 through May 17. Weekly influenza surveillance snapshots and influenza reports by age group will be available on the SNHD website starting in October.
