The Idaho State Board of Education is currently accepting research proposals from Idaho institutions of higher education for the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) grant program.
IGEM grants, administered by the Board of Trustees’ Higher Education and Research Council (HERC), have previously funded projects in areas such as cybersecurity, disaster response and food and dairy innovation centres.
The Idaho Legislature allocates $2 million annually for IGEM grants. Selected proposals must align with the commission’s statewide higher education research strategic plan and leverage the talent and expertise of Idaho’s research universities and the private sector. Last year, HERC funded nine IGEM projects.
The deadline for pre-proposals is October 28, 2024. Submitters will be notified by December 13, 2024 whether their proposal will proceed to the full proposal stage, which is scheduled to close in late February 2025. Selection of successful applications will occur by May 1, 2025.

Established in 1998, the Council on Higher Education Research is responsible for implementing and administering the State Board of Education’s higher education research policy and the grant programs created by the Board. These programs are intended to stimulate competitive research in Idaho educational institutions.
