HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Augusta Health held a ribbon cutting to welcome its newest care center in Harrisonburg on Thursday, following the medical group’s acquisition of Rockingham Family Physicians on Sept. 1.

The independent practitioner first approached Augusta Health about joining the health system two years ago.

“As more and more primary care offices join hospital groups, we are looking at it and adding our… I thought the time had come to do so.” He worked at Rockingham Family Medicine for 26 years.

Whitman said joining Augusta Health will expand what health care can offer.

“The investments we have made in our infrastructure and technology over the past few months have been truly amazing and will also greatly benefit the care we are able to provide to our patients,” Whitman said.

Whitman said joining Augusta Health also helped address staffing shortages at the clinic.

“As a private family business, we have always struggled with having enough employees, but now we don’t have to worry about that. We have a large staff in Augusta to help us. We know that there are, and we are very grateful for that,” he said.

Whitman said she hopes joining Augusta Health will provide the clinic with more social work opportunities.

“It’s a resource for patients who need services that we’ve had a hard time recognizing, to see how they can benefit the community,” Whitman said. “I’m really looking forward to having the support of a well-rounded hospital to provide these resources for our patients.”

Whitman said the clinic is still in the process of transitioning to Augusta Health and asked doctors to be patient with patients as they learn the new system. He said the change would benefit the clinic’s patients.
