Loading up on thousands of dollars in debt and not being able to get a job is every college student’s worst nightmare. The closer you get to the graduation stage, the more anxious you become about not being able to secure your first job.
Thankfully, UNK provides students with many resources to help them network with professionals.
We support university efforts to connect students with employers before graduation.
UNK offers several resources to prepare students and assist them with their job search, even going so far as to introduce employers to campus. The university has already held two sector-specific career fairs this semester: the Educational Opportunity Fair and the Health Career Fair. A Career & Internship Fair is also planned for next month, attracting employers from a variety of sectors.
On-campus opportunities like this encourage students to get involved. It’s more convenient and less stressful than doing it alone. Accessibility and a more relaxed environment make it easier to take your first steps into networking. Additionally, students can visit multiple companies during the same period of time, rather than scheduling visits for each employer.
While some students may attend the fair solely to fulfill coursework requirements, receiving such a boost may expose them to things they may not have otherwise been exposed to. can. There’s always someone to guide you through the experience, whether it’s a staff member, an employee, or another student.
We recommend extending these fairs to span several days. This is typically around 2-3 hours, but due to classes, work, and other commitments, this time slot may not be available to all students. For some students, certain days of the week are busier than others, so holding the fair over multiple days allows more students to participate.
UNK’s networking opportunities also extend to several online platforms. Students can sign up for Handshake, an online site to connect with employers and browse potential jobs. You can link your account to UNK for easy access to campus-specific resources.
Students also have access to “The Range.” This platform is unique to UNK and connects students with alumni who may serve as mentors or future employers.
These resources demonstrate UNK’s investment in our company. Rather than just focusing on what will help us while we are students, faculty and staff also guide us through life after graduation.
It is clear that we support our success beyond academics. Thank you to all the faculty and staff who took us beyond the classroom.
