A Republican state senator in West Virginia has been asked to resign by his local Republican Party chairman after he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, the second such arrest in recent months.

Ethan Moore, chairman of the Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee, said in a statement: “While the legal process should certainly proceed, the perception of fraud and repeated legal entanglements surrounding Sen. Maloney have damaged the credibility of the West Virginia State Senate. “I’m letting them do it,” he said. “We believe it is in the best interests of Senate District 2 and the state for Sen. Maloney to resign and restore public trust and the integrity of the Senate.”
