NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State volleyball team lost in five sets (25-23, 18-25, 25-22, 11-25, 13-15) to Tennessee Tech on Friday night at Keene Gym.

With this loss, Tennessee State’s record falls to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in OVC play.

The Tigers were led by a double-double from Celestial Miller, who had 10 kills and 11 digs on the day. Alizaisha Sopi also helped the offense with eight kills. Defensively, Hadley Pride chipped in with 23 digs and had 14 blocks from Storm White.

Set 1 | The Tigers endured a back-and-forth first set, winning 25-23 in the first round, which featured nine lead changes and 15 ties. In this game, neither team led by more than three points. Tennessee State also supplemented its attack with three aces in the first set. He showed a solid defensive performance in the front row, blocking Tennessee Tech’s attacks five times in Game 1.

Set 2 | Tennessee State then lost the second set 25-18, with each set ending in the evening. Tennessee State was trailing by as many as seven points, and Tennessee Tech took full advantage in the set, 13-12, and the score was tied seven times before the Golden Eagles took the lead.

Tennessee Tech grabbed a full advantage at 6-5, and Tennessee State was unable to recover from three tied sets until the Golden Eagles took over, allowing the Tigers to trail by as many as 14 points. Set 5 | Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech were back-and-forth throughout the match, with the Golden Eagles winning the fifth set 15-13 and competing for wins in the first three sets before taking the final two. The Lady Tigers lost the fifth set after a back-and-forth match, then lost the first round where the lead changed hands five times and were tied eight times. Neither team led by more than two points in this set.
