EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Hundreds of people gathered at Northstar Middle School on Saturday to learn about mental health resources for the Hmong community.
Mayo Clinic and others teamed up this year to host a Hmong mental health conference focused on mental health.
Mayo Clinic staff say the conference will be an opportunity for members of the Hmong community to hear from colleagues and experts about matters unique to Hmong culture and history.
The conference will also discuss addiction, depression, anxiety, and healthy coping skills.
Mayo Clinic Health System’s Brooke Berg said she has high hopes the event will be helpful.
“I want people to understand that they are not alone, that mental health is part of our overall health. It’s important. We need to talk about it. It’s okay if you’re not okay and really help them understand and help all of us understand what resources are available to them,” Berg said.
This is the second Hmong health conference to be held in the Chippewa Valley, as last year’s focus was on chronic disease prevention and stroke.
