Tech falls to No. 1 Pitt – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

FLATZ – Georgia Tech Volleyball (8-3, 0-2 ACC) couldn’t keep up with No. 1 Pitt (12-0, 2-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon, falling 25-11, 25 in three sets. I was defeated. -17, 25-8.

This marks the 35th consecutive packed game at O’Keefe Gymnasium, a streak dating back to the 2021 season. Sophomore right side Larissa Mendez led the team with eight kills. She became the third Yellow Jacket (107) to reach 100 kills this season, joining Bianca Bertolino (124) and Tamara Otene (141). Junior middle blocker Anna Boesi set a season high with two blocks despite playing in just one set. Junior middle blocker Liv Moggridge had six kills. She finished the weekend with a .438 batting average and 10 kills.

Set 1 (GT 11 – Pit 25)

The Panthers stayed strong in the first set, scoring 17 of the first 20 points and held firm for a 14-point set victory. Mendez led the Jackets with three kills.

Set 2 (GT 17 – Pit 25)

The Jackets responded well in their second start, taking a 7-4 lead thanks to two kills from Otene and a block from Moggridge. But they couldn’t maintain the momentum, and the Panthers tied the score at 8-8, eventually taking a 16-11 lead late in the set. Tech was unable to get into the match and ultimately lost the set by eight points.

Set 3 (GT 8 – Pit 25)

Pitt didn’t disturb the Jackets in the third set, finishing the match with 21 of the final 25 points.

Georgia Tech returns to the practice court ahead of the second weekend of ACC play. The Jackets travel to Notre Dame on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will face yet another ranked foe, No. 5 Louisville, on the road next Sunday.
