Renault has released details of the exterior of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric ahead of its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show on October 14th.
Wiring connections for versatility
The 1961 Renault 4 revolutionized the car market and achieved iconic status. It was Renault’s first front-engined family car, and had a flat floor without a transmission tunnel. It has become a spacious and resourceful car, perfect for driving around the city and the countryside, on weekdays and weekends, on the commute and on holidays. It was the right car for its time and place, and it fit perfectly into a changing society. It became an overnight hit, becoming the car of choice in more than 100 countries, and Renault went on to produce more than 8 million Renault 4s.
The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is as versatile as its predecessor. And, just for the times, it’s all-electric, instantly adorable, and up-to-date. With an overall length of 4.14 meters, it is a stable B-segment vehicle, perfect for the Renault 5 with an overall length of 3.92 meters. It uses the same AmpR Small platform, the foundation designed to deliver best-in-class interior space and uncompromising agility and comfort. The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric will be manufactured in Maubeuge, France and is expected to reach dealers in 2025.

grill
The rectangular grille has a precise, uninterrupted illuminated rim that surrounds round LED headlamps at each end. The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is the first Renault car to feature a backlit emblem in the center of the face. It immediately reminds us of its 1960s predecessor, but with the high-tech, modern aura of the original.
4 logo
The soft, glossy, iconic “4” on the tailgate represents the car’s name.
tail light
Many of us remember the 4L’s three-part pill-shaped tail lights. They still exist and stand upright, but they are packed with today’s technology and have been improved around modern aesthetics. They emphasize the unique character of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, and the glossy black contours add sophistication.
quarter window
The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric still features the trademark trapezoidal quarter widow positioned precisely above the rear wheels. This is one of the immediately recognizable features of the original Renault 4 and extends to the surface of the side glass.
door sill carving
Reminiscent of the plastic shields of later 4L generations, the sides of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric have three parallel engraved lines extending from the body.
The size is exactly right and makes up the profile of the car.
wings
A sticker running from the side of the windshield to the wheel arches hints at the distinctive front fenders of the original Renault 4.
spoiler
The nod to the original Renault 4’s roof shape is a must-see. A spoiler at the edge of the roof adds a vibrant touch to the car’s silhouette.
tailgate
The angle of the tailgate, ending with a noticeably lower loading sill, is one of the characteristics of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric.
bumper
Gone are the chrome-plated bumpers and rubber buffers of the 1960s, but the front and rear bumpers now feature the vertical overriders found on the tips of the original Renault 4.
retractable fabric roof
Some Renault 4 E-Tech electric versions let you cruise with the wind in your hair, like the spin-off of the same name. The fabric roof opens wide and the sense of freedom is unparalleled.
