TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Thousands of high school students in western Alabama could be a lot closer to finding the career that’s right for them.

That’s the goal of our annual program to get them on their career path faster.

The 8th annual World of Work (WOW) Career Expo begins Wednesday morning in Tuscaloosa. This event is sponsored by West Alabama Works.

4,000 9th grade students from across western Alabama come to Tuscaloosa to attend Shelton State Community College.

Dozens of companies are preparing the equipment and personnel to show students what their jobs require and what they will need to do if they choose to work in the field. .

“We have all the different types of jobs that are available in West Alabama, so for students, what are the types of jobs available, what are the opportunities, and what does it take to get those great jobs?” It’s very important to know what you need to do,” said Donnie Jones, CEO of West Alabama Works.

WOW is a two-day event.

On the second day, Thursday, students in grades 10-12 are invited to WOW Varsity.

Those students, along with their parents, will have the opportunity to meet and speak with industry leaders from 11 different careers.
