BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) and Teach for America (TFA) Rio Grande Valley are excited to announce the upcoming “Youth Panel: What Works to Prepare Young People for College and Careers.” , we are pleased to present “A Discussion on What’s Not Working.” . ” This event explores the successes and challenges of young people in preparing for college and career. This event, to be held at the eBridge Center on October 22, 2024, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., will feature a panel discussion of diverse voices from students and alumni navigating their educational and professional journeys. This youth panel aims to provide young people with a platform to reflect on their educational experiences and foster discussion about what is and isn’t working in preparing them for the future. . This event is open to the public but specifically dedicated to K-12 and higher education leaders, workforce development professionals, business and community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and youth and community development. be beneficial to other interested parties.

“Our community development efforts are not limited to experienced entrepreneurs and leaders; they extend to the next generation,” said Cori Peña, BCIC President and CEO. spoke. “This panel discussion is the first of its kind and allows us to hear directly from our students about their experiences and aspirations. Panel discussions included high school students currently enrolled in college preparatory programs, students in career and technical education (CTE), high school graduates pursuing higher education, and students already in careers of interest. , includes a variety of perspectives. . Moderated by Avril Flores, Director of College Counseling at IDEA College Prep Brownsville, this panel will give participants an opportunity to share insights and recommendations to improve their college and career readiness efforts .

The event concludes with a reflection session and networking opportunity for participants to enable further engagement and collaboration in supporting Brownsville youth.
