All they needed was a decent quarterback.
Enter Aaron Rodgers, who was supposed to magically solve the Jets’ chronic quarterback problems. But after rupturing his Achilles tendon on the fourth play of the first game, Rodgers spent the rest of the season sidelined and ranted about conspiracy theories on Pat McAfee’s show. In his absence, the Jets turned to Zach Wilson, who is frankly a disaster at quarterback. Through Game 7 last season, the Jets were 2-5.
After playing seven games with Rodgers this season? They are 2-5 again.
And the situation is getting worse. The most recent fiasco was in Pittsburgh, with everyone in attendance being Donald Trump, against a washed-up Russell Wilson-led Steelers team. Wilson, a benchwarmer the past two years, struggled for much of the game but still scored 37 points against a once-elite Jets defense. Rogers? He led the team to a whopping 15 points.
Even though the Jets tried everything they could to trade for Davante Adams, one of the best wide receivers in the league and Rodgers’ old teammate, Rodgers was a huge failure. He threw seven interceptions for 10 touchdowns. For context, in 19 seasons as a quarterback, Rodgers has only thrown seven or more picks in an entire season five times. He did it in just seven games and has 10 more to go. His quarterback rating is the worst of his career. And in that Jets helmet, he looks like someone’s middle-aged father trying to relive his glory days, throwing the ball to guys half his age.
