Researchers from the Division of Inorganic Chemistry at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society have made a breakthrough in the field of data management for catalysis research. Their latest research, “Advancing Catalysis Research Through FAIR Data Principles Implemented in Local Data Infrastructure – An Automated Test Reactor Case Study,” was published in the prestigious journal Cataracy Science & Technology and is a research paper published in the prestigious journal Cataracy Science & Technology. Exploring the transformative power of principles.

In today’s digital age, data is essential to scientific discovery. Science requires data that is searchable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (collectively referred to as FAIR data). This study highlights how these principles are becoming essential to scientific progress, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence that requires reliable and consistent data.

Researchers have developed an innovative method to automatically collect and store data from catalysis experiments. By implementing machine-readable standard operating procedures (SOPs), the team automated the entire process from data collection to analysis and storage. This automation is powered by EPICS, ensuring that all data flows seamlessly through the system.

Additionally, the development of application programming interfaces (APIs) allows this data to circulate within the local infrastructure as well as within a global repository. This connectivity paves the way for autonomous catalyst discovery and advanced machine learning applications, potentially revolutionizing the way new catalysts are discovered.

This research represents a major step forward in the search for more efficient and effective scientific methods and is expected to accelerate discovery and innovation in chemistry and other fields.
