SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Kindergarteners in Sioux City are getting a taste of their future careers with the help of a few kind friends.
Sioux City Career Academy introduced its “Adventure Pals” initiative to students at Nodland Elementary School Thursday morning. Kindergarten children learn about various jobs through career and technical education through their stuffed animal friends.
“We want them to be exposed to jobs that are really needed in the community and jobs that we want to highlight that they may not be aware of,” said Career Academy Principal Eric Kilburn. “So that’s your chance with Adventure Pals.”
Over the years, Adventure Pals has chronicled various professions, including being a firefighter and flying with the 185th Air Refueling Wing, introducing young children to the many job opportunities that await them.

“They’re going to do some cool things, but they’re also going to do some very practical things like welding and working in nursing homes,” Kilburn said. “So I’m really looking forward to them coming out and showing us the work that our community members are doing.”
Twelve Adventure Pals will be assigned to elementary schools in the Sioux City Community School District.
