Riga, Latvia – Latvian flag carrier AirBaltic, located in the capital Riga, was looking for a company to maintain the GTF engines on its Airbus A220-300 aircraft. They found a solution from Pratt & Whitney, an RTX company in Hartford, Connecticut.
The airline and Pratt & Whitney announced a long-term engine-wise comprehensive maintenance services agreement that ties Air Baltic’s maintenance costs to the airline’s engine usage.
Developed by Pratt & Whitney, EngineWise is a maintenance and data analytics platform designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of aircraft engines. RTX says its technology will enable airlines and airlines to improve engine performance, reduce maintenance costs and better manage engines throughout their lifecycle.

The platform collects real-time data from sensors embedded in aircraft engines during flight. These sensors track key parameters such as temperature, pressure, fuel consumption, and vibration. EngineWise then processes this data using advanced analytics and machine learning to identify patterns, predict maintenance needs, and identify potential problems before they become serious.
One of the main benefits of EngineWise is its predictive maintenance capabilities. Analyzing engine data can predict when certain components will fail or degrade, allowing maintenance teams to make timely repairs or replacements. This proactive strategy helps reduce unplanned maintenance, limit aircraft downtime, and extend the life of engine components.
“Pratt & Whitney has been a long-term and trusted partner of Air Baltic since becoming the global in-service operator of the Airbus A220-300 in 2016,” said Air Baltic President and CEO CEO Martin Gauss said. “The aircraft’s PW1500G GTF engine reduces fuel consumption per seat by 25% compared to the previous generation, delivering significant cost savings. We look forward to many years of successful cooperation with Pratt & Whitney. ”

“We will provide long-term support to help Air Baltic optimize aircraft performance as it expands its route network,” said Rick Deroureux, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney. Ta. “We value the continued trust airlines have in our GTF engines and the value they receive from our industry-leading fuel efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, and reduced noise emissions. Together, we share a strong commitment to making air travel more accessible while reducing its impact.” ”
