On Sept. 17, the American Hospital Association (AHA) visited UConn Health to present its Legacy Award for the impact of past and present leadership in improving the health of the community.
“As a token of our appreciation from the American Hospital Association,” AHA Regional Director LaShannon Spencer said as she presented the beautiful glass award to UConn Health CEO Dr. Andy Agunobi and Caryl Ryan, RN, who is chief operating officer at UConn John Dempsey Hospital and also serves as chief nursing officer for UConn Health.

The AHA regional director shared that UConn Health’s founders and early leaders were deeply involved in the AHA long before UConn Health was founded in the 1960s, serving on the organization’s advocacy and federal legislative efforts, as well as on AHA policy committees.
“This award pays tribute to past leaders as well as current leaders at the University of Connecticut Health Center and its hospitals,” said the AHA’s Spencer.
“The American Hospital Association is one of the most prestigious national organizations that oversees hospitals, so this is a tremendous honor and recognition for our hospital,” Ryan said.
“This significant achievement is a testament to your unwavering commitment and support, and your deep understanding of the value of advocacy in improving the quality of health care services and the lives of our staff, patients and the communities we serve,” Spencer concluded.
