Anna Kendrick is making her directorial debut with Netflix’s Woman of the Hour, which just arrived on the platform. But the 39-year-old isn’t just “directing” the film, she’s also starring in it.

The film tells the true story of a serial killer who discovered his next potential victim on national television in 1978. Anna will play Cheryl Bradshaw, a single woman at the center of an episode of the blind date show The Date Game.

Eventually, one of the contestants turns out to be Rodney Alcala, a serial killer who became known as the Dating Game Killer. This story is horrifying, and unsurprisingly, Anna really brings it to the screen.

After checking out the movie and taking a look at Anna’s latest Instagram, it’s clear that she’s in great shape with her fitness. So what does Anna do for training? Here’s what she shared:

She likes changing up her routine.

Anna tends to switch between training sessions. “Every time I try something new, I’m like, ‘I found it! I found the one workout I’ll ever need for the rest of my life!'” she told Shape magazine in 2020. We have to start with something new. ”

The Pitch Perfect star said her recent situation has been in a “hiking phase.”

“I live in a funky hillside area of ​​LA, and that’s when my best ideas come to me, so I knew I had to go hiking,” she continued. “Actually, it’s like mental clarity. Sometimes I think too much in my head and overanalyze things. When I’m walking, no matter what You can overcome it.”

However, she added that she is not striving for beauty and that “strength and flexibility are more important than looks” right now.

“I definitely needed to change my mindset to do things to improve my quality of life instead of doing things to punish myself,” she said.

She loves low-impact training.

Anna has tried many low-impact workouts, including yoga, Pilates, and barre.

“The only thing I haven’t tried is because I know I’m bad at it. It’s the workouts where they yell at you, ‘Come on, get on your knees!'” she told Shape.

Anna also spends time on the treadmill, but says it’s her last choice if nothing else is available. “I was working out for an hour every day. There are no excuses,” she told the Los Angeles Times in 2015. “I live a life of absolutes. Either I exercise every day or I let myself go.”

Anna said finding balance is important and aims to work out three to four days a week. “I’ve never used a trainer,” she said. “When I think of someone coming in front of me, I get a little scared.”

When she was in her 20s, she wasn’t really interested in the gym.

Anna wasn’t always big on working out. When she turned 30, she tried to focus more on her health.

“It’s terrible,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in 2015. That’s the worst part. Will it work? ”

She prioritizes eating and sleeping.

Although Anna focuses on exercising regularly, she also focuses on other areas of health.

“I know ‘everything in moderation’ is a cliché, but it’s true,” she told Shape. “Throughout my life, every time I tried to restrict foods that I loved, it backfired and I ended up feeling miserable. For me, it’s all about what actually exists in my body. And it’s not about taking that away.”

Anna avoids dairy products and alcohol for certain roles to preserve her singing voice. “Alcohol was easy,” she told the Times. “But dairy is in everything, so trying to avoid it seems crazy. I also cook Brussels sprouts in butter. Until then, I had thought about the plight of people who are lactose intolerant. There was no such thing.”

Sleep is also important to her. “I’m not someone who can survive on six hours of sleep a night,” Anna told the Times. “You can see it on my face, you can hear it in my voice. You work 14 hours a day and then you have to go home and sleep and wake up in time for the crew to call.”

However, Anna “hates” naps. “They throw me around all day,” she added.
