Regarding “Learning how to deal with menopause” (September 25th and 26th): We would like to thank the editorial staff for publishing the column on menopause. This is a very important topic as it affects over 80% of women.
But another issue important to women’s health has received less attention than menopause. Did you know that almost 50% of women suffer from pelvic organ prolapse, where the uterus, bladder, and intestines fall out of place? It can be extremely painful and emotionally devastating. There is a gender.
Physicians need to start educating women about risk factors such as childbirth, heavy lifting, and connective tissue disorders. There is absolutely no excuse for women not to be prepared for this potentially terrifying situation. All women should be able to receive the information they need to avoid this condition.
Dear obstetricians and gynecologists, please be proactive about this issue. Prolapse affects every aspect of a woman’s life and the life of her partner as well.
