On the latest episode of the ARN Show, Arn Anderson talked about Philadelphia fans rooting for heels back in the day, wrestlers benefiting from being on the Pro Wrestling Illustrated 500 list, and more. You can check out some highlights below.
Regarding the Philadelphia fans who were rooting for the heels at the time, he said, “Well, I gave up on being a heel. That’s what I went with. But it was heel town, so I just went out and started moving.” And you went out and just did your thing and let the chips fall where they may. If they cheered for you, cheered for you. If they booed you, they booed you. One thing I know is this is a violent city. They like their athletes and they’re tough in Philadelphia. And you never thought about anything other than completely changing your style. I just gave them their money’s worth. And that’s what it was.”
As for whether wrestlers read dirt sheets like PWI: Because there was no social media. If you’re going to catch up – you know, they’re going to be halfway there. It was pretty much accurate, like when Pro Wrestling Illustrated rates tag teams, singles, etc. So even if it was a wrestling magazine, a lot of what was published there was thought out to some degree. By the way, the men were being taken advantage of. If there were territories, I think there would have been a section with the top 10 for each territory. The results will be pretty close. It simply depended on how they were used. ”
On how wrestlers benefit from being on the PWI list: “Well, promoters will look at that and think, oh, they must be pretty good.” I’ve also heard There wasn’t. Let’s stop bringing them. So my job became photography. ”
