HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The University of Houston’s Arte Público Press has been recovering and preserving Hispanic literature for more than 30 years. Digitize everything written by Latin Americans from the American colonial period to the present day.
In May, we launched a new innovative website that promises to change the landscape of Latin American history research.

Ventura is the director of the U.S. Hispanic Literacy Heritage Recovery Program at Arte Público Press.

“I’m really proud of this project. It’s been a multi-year project, but for me it’s part of this larger project,” said Micaela Selly of Arte Público Press. “We know that students are Googling Latino history, and that they end up on our website with great stories about both the struggles and our contributions and successes. I want them to find the story.”
One of the main goals of this initiative is to highlight the history of Latin Americans from both sides of the border.
This website features more than 150 periodicals chronicling major events, from civil rights and immigrant rights to women’s issues, as well as the literature left behind by many of our ancestors. has been.
