RUSTON – Louisiana Tech’s Daniel Baccio has been named Conference USA Men’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

Baccio, a 6-foot-11, 245-pound forward from Paris, France, had a standout season at Los Angeles Polytechnic Institute, earning CUSA Rookie of the Year, First Team All-CUSA, and CUSA All-Defensive Team honors.

He averaged 15.2 points as a redshirt junior and shot 59.0 percent from the field, the best in CUSA. He recorded six performances of 20 points or more, including a career-high 24 points in two games against Seattle U and Middle Tennessee.

Bacho also averaged a team-high and league-high 9.8 rebounds per game and had a CUSA-best 11 double-doubles. Defensively, he ranked in the top 10 in the country with 67 blocks and averaged 2.39 rejections per game.

LA Tech was voted No. 1 in the preseason poll, receiving 89 points (three first-place votes) from the league’s coaches. WKU and Sam Houston were just behind the Bulldogs in second and third place, respectively.

The 2024-25 season opens on Nov. 4 at home against LSU-Alexandria.
