This week’s Alabama Champion is Beth Davis, president and CEO of the Alabama Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization that funds breast cancer research across Alabama and finds ways to treat the disease. .
In 2023, BCRFA provided $1.25 million in funding for research across the state.
In 2001, Davis’ sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis hit home and made Beth Davis fight even harder for this cause.
Davis said she is very excited about immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is a treatment that uses drugs to help the body’s immune system fight cancer cells and stop them from spreading.
An average of 4,500 women are diagnosed each year in Alabama. BCRFA-funded research is contributing to lower mortality rates for breast cancer patients.
“Lifespans are definitely increasing and outcomes are improving…I’m proud of my work,” says Beth Davis.
Davis said the organization also helps spread the word about early detection, which also saves lives.
If you are interested in helping, please attend the Bolt for Breast Cancer Run on Sunday, October 27th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Crestline Park in Homewood, Alabama.
