PEORIA (25News Now) – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois held a community health fair.
Saturday’s event was held at the Eastview Community Center.
While there, people can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines and get tested for kidney disease and diabetes. There were also several vendors there, including Carle Health and Friends Wellness on Wheel.
In addition to screenings, health education initiatives such as demonstrations by registered dietitians were also held. Blue Cross Blue Shield says it is committed to eliminating health disparities in our communities.
“People feel safe when things happen in their own communities, in familiar and safe spaces. The services currently being offered are not just for cardholders. We care about our community, but we also care about our community as a whole,” said Tonita Cheatham, executive director of communities for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.
Insurance companies have been holding the fair in cities around Illinois for several years. This year it was held in Bloomington and will be held again next year.
The organization is pleased with the fair’s results, but hopes to expand next year.
