Bondi Fitness to close ‘after 20 years’: ‘disappointed’

Fitness First will close its gym at Westfield Bondi Junction. (Fitness first)

Fitness First will close its Bondi Junction gym after failing to secure a tenant for Westfield. The gym issued an email to members this week informing them it will be closing later this year.

“Sadly, after 20 years of dedicated service to our community, it is with deep sadness that we announce that Fitness First Platinum Gym at Westfield Bondi Junction will be closing later this year. I am writing this letter for you,” the email said.

“We had hoped to be able to secure a new site within the center to build a new luxury fitness facility, but were disappointed to learn late last week that our bid had been unsuccessful.”

No timeline for the closure has been established, and Fitness First is still negotiating with Westfield.

We will contact members as soon as the schedule is decided. Until then, the gym will remain open.

There’s another Fitness First around the corner on Spring Street, but it’s much smaller than the Westfield location.

“Rest assured that we are providing our team with all the support they need during this difficult time,” Fitness First said in a statement.

There are currently 37 gyms in Sydney, two in Canberra and 12 in Melbourne.

Yahoo Finance has reached out to Jim for comment.
