One of the weekend’s most notable games will be this Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium between Georgia Tech and No. 12 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have played very well since their come-from-behind loss to Northern Illinois, and Georgia Tech is 5-2 with wins over Duke and North Carolina. Notre Dame hopes to win and advance to the College Football Playoff, but they can’t afford another failure.

This will be the best team Georgia Tech has played all season, and Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key shared his thoughts on the Fighting Irish on Tuesday, especially the play of their defense. It was complementary.

“So we’re excited to play and we’ve got to prepare this week. And to play a big game, we’ve got to prepare in a big way. That’s what it is. So, a talented football team, we are preparing for the game. He’s been here three years and you’ve seen his tenacity as a player and as a defensive coach. They’re at the top, you know, in almost every defensive category, they’re a top team and they’ve got a really good quarterback. He throws the football well and uses his feet well. What he does and what he can do, he’s probably a little more designed quarterback than we are. They have a big offensive line, they’re young, they have guys playing for the first time this season, and you see them getting more and more cohesive each week. unit. So we’re excited to play them. We’re excited to be playing in Mercedes-Benz, excited for our fans to be there, excited for our student body to be there, and, you know, to see the outcome of the game a few miles away. I’m excited to be a part of it. This game. And I know they will. We are so excited and can’t wait to go and play. There’s a lot to do between now and then.

They have good players and a good scheme. These are not very complicated plans. They have enough admiration for the parts of their plan that look the same, rather than blitzing, applying pressure, or tweaking their coverage. But at the end of the day, they’re going to line up and play four downs and then do man coverage and challenge you at the receiver position and make you throw in time and try to limit the run game in the box. Includes a spare hat. And they got good players to do it. Obviously, the head coach is the defensive coach, but we have one of the best defensive coordinators in the country, and Al Golden calls the defense. And, you know, I don’t know him personally, but people that are very close to me that I respect very much and that I know played for him, that he was Know what type of coach you are. Then you see their tenacity and defense, and you learn that character as well. ”

Key was also asked about quarterback Haynes King’s health, to which he replied:

“Yeah, he’s good every day. We’ve got a lot of guys who are in shape right now. On Saturday, he played a physical game, a 60-minute game. That’s this time of year. This time of year, everyone plays. In September and early September, everyone is excited and hoping for the best, and if we can still play for this season, it’s a blessing. Yes, we have a few players, but whether they play or not will be decided at game time. ”

Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame will kick off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN.
