GREEN BAY, Wis. – (WGBW) – Brown County is reminding everyone six months of age and older to get the flu vaccine. Troy Streckenbach of Brown County and Brown County Public Health Director Anna Nick received the flu vaccine at a press conference Monday.
The flu shot reduces illness, doctor’s office visits, and missed work or school due to the influenza virus. It can also reduce flu symptoms and reduce hospitalizations and deaths from the flu.

“The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to get the flu vaccine every year,” Brown County Public Health Officer Anna Nick said in a press release. “After vaccination, it takes about two weeks for the body to produce antibodies that protect against influenza, so October is the best time to get vaccinated before winter sets in.”
Nick said an annual flu vaccine is necessary because the virus changes every year.
Getting the influenza vaccine is especially important for people who are at high risk for serious complications, such as:
• Pregnant people
• infant
• People over the age of 65, especially those who live in groups.
• People with certain medical conditions, such as asthma or heart disease.

The Brown County Public Health Department is holding two flu clinics for children ages 6 months to 18 years. The clinic will be held at the Brown County Central Library, 515 Pine Street, Green Bay.
• Tuesday, October 15th, 4-6 p.m.
• Wednesday, October 23, 4-6 p.m.

Brown County Public Health also encourages other healthy behaviors to avoid the flu and other respiratory illnesses.
Cover your coughs and sneezes with your hands, and use your sleeve or tissue instead of your hands. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds using warm water and soap. If you cannot wash your hands, use hand sanitizer. Please stay home if you are sick.
