CDC updates COVID-19 vaccine recommendations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults 65 and older and people with compromised immune systems receive their second dose of the latest COVID-19 vaccine six months after their last dose. I’m doing it.

People with weakened immune systems may require additional doses based on their personal health and doctor’s advice.

The big picture: Updated recommendations aim to provide stronger protection against viruses.

Medical professionals are monitoring COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus. As of mid-October, hospitalizations and emergency department visits due to COVID-19 have decreased, but respiratory virus activity remains low nationwide. The latest vaccines offer protection against new variants and reduce the risk of long-term COVID-19 infection, the CDC says. While not a perfect match for all new variants, experts say the 2024 vaccine will be about an 80% match to current variants and offer stronger protection than previous versions. I am estimating.
