Changing jobs is slow part 2
Today’s report on fruit growers from the Agricultural Information Network. Roger Remstrom, 70, entered the wine business just eight years ago when he purchased a vineyard in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, called Los Locosos.
And as a volunteer with the local fire department, member of the local Elks club and chamber of commerce, Lemstrom says he jumped into his new community with both feet…
Lemström… “It’s been very helpful operationally. And I’m not an isolated winery where no one knows anything.”
When it comes to Los Locosos wines, Remström says he does everything himself…
Remström… “If you get down to my level, you know about family businesses and little people paying attention. And there’s a word in French: vin-YER-on. What is a vigneron? I’m talking about someone who not only grows grapes, but also makes wine and knows everything about it.”
And it looks like his dedication is paying off…
Remström… “My wine won a medal at the Ship Magazine Food and Wine Competition in Seattle when it beat out 400 other wineries in wine tasting and won double gold and platinum. I earned it.”
And it was rewarding, Lemstrom says…
Remstrom… “You walk away knowing that my pier recognizes my value-added agricultural products as good.”
