CLEVELAND, Ohio — Amazon One Medical, which provides virtual and in-person primary care in select U.S. cities, will partner with Cleveland Clinic to open its first office in Northeast Ohio next year, the clinic said Monday. It was announced on .

The clinic says the partnership will allow patients to receive coordinated care through Amazon One Medical and the clinic’s network of specialists, hospitals and facilities. The location of the office has not yet been decided.

Amazon One Medical — part of Amazon’s push into healthcare — offers pay-per-visit telemedicine visits for routine care, or annual memberships. These monthly or annual memberships give you access to same-day and next-day appointments at One Medical offices, as well as on-demand virtual appointments.

“This partnership demonstrates both organizations’ shared commitment to meeting the needs of our patients and enhancing the care we provide to our communities,” said Dr. Tom Mihaljevic, CEO of the clinic. “Amazon One Medical complements our current primary care services and provides patients with access to essential medical services.”

People using an Amazon One Medical office don’t have to be patients at the clinic, but they do need to be a One Medical member.

Amazon One Medical facilities in the Cleveland area will be staffed by One Medical physicians, the clinic said. The clinic and Amazon One Medical will determine where to open additional offices in Northeast Ohio over the next few years, the clinic said.

Amazon One Medical currently has its only location in Ohio, in Columbus. There are also locations in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, New York, and other US cities. health.amazon.com.

In July 2022, Amazon announced that it paid $3.9 billion to acquire One Medical. Amazon’s healthcare products include Amazon Pharmacy and Amazon One Medical

Amazon is closing down its Halo fitness wearables division and ending support for Halo devices and apps in July 2023.

Google reportedly announced in July that it would not renew its contract with Amazon One Medical, ending its contract to provide discounted medical services to Google employees. Google was One Medical’s largest customer, accounting for 10% of its revenue in 2020.

How One Medical works

One-time virtual visits with Amazon One Medical Pay-per-visit are $29 for telehealth message visits and $49 for video visits.

Amazon One Medical accepts most major insurance plans for in-person visits or pre-scheduled remote visits, but does not accept insurance for pay-per-visit payments.

Amazon Prime members can initially become an Amazon One Medical member by paying $9 per person per month or $99 per year. Add family members for just $6 per month.

Amazon expands early into Northeast Ohio

This is not the first regional partnership with Amazon.

In 2023, the Cleveland-based Center for Health Issues will collaborate with Amazon Web Services to develop a plan to address gun violence, behavioral health crises, and other factors impacting the health of northern Ohio residents. Created a large global data pool.
