A neon sign above the main desk reads “Movement is Medicine,” explaining the core mission of Concord’s new gym.
A new addition to Concord’s fitness scene, Flexable Assisted Stringing and Wellness takes its name from a combination of the words “flex” and “able,” and offers specialized stretching services for clients and athletes of all ages looking to improve. We offer session and personal training services. It can increase your range of motion and prevent injury.
“Look at Tom Brady. Tom Brady, his career has come from stretch aids and mobility and work,” staff member Karen Kenney said. “Essentially, we’re trying to make that affordable to the general public.”
Owner Nate Lavallee, a Manchester native, opened his first store in his hometown two years ago after humble beginnings in a friend’s garage. His goal is simple. We wanted to help people with their health and mobility and reduce pain and injury.
As a young man, Lavallee struggled with addiction for a long time while working as a construction worker. But as I got older, I realized I needed to make a change, so I attended Manchester Community College and earned a degree in Health and Fitness Professionals.
“I had been through enough pain that I was willing to open up and make changes. I took action in different ways and slowly began to become whole,” he said. Written on the Flexible website.
Lavallee has now been sober for five years and has found purpose and success by helping others achieve their personal health goals.
“I meditate twice a day. A big part of my journey is meditation and keeping my stress levels and nervous system in check, because sometimes I literally get worked up at work. I walk a lot. I run a little. A big part of my recovery is helping others and pushing myself to do the next right thing. “It’s about doing it,” he said.
Flexable Studio’s proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching sessions are available one-on-one for people of all ages. It is a technique that relies on the body’s own reflexes to create a deeper stretch using the contract release method.
“Our job with PNF is to help you understand how beneficial breathing is, a release method. Apply pressure for 5 seconds, relax and exhale deeply at the same time. Just a little reprieve. It’s almost like a scam, right?” Lavallee said. “It gives us a small opportunity to learn a little bit more deeply. It’s the most effective stretch known, and people are seeing great benefits from it, especially when it’s assisted. ”
The studio also offers personal training using weight training and calisthenics aimed at supplementing mobility. Increased joint flexibility allows you to complete exercises through a full range of motion, leading to more effective strength gains.
Increased range of motion improves muscle strength and circulation, reducing stiffness and risk of reinjury. All of these are essential for elite athletes looking to perform at the highest level, as well as athletes who want to continue playing the sport they love. For many years to come.
Through personalized sessions, monthly packages, and long-term planning, Lavallee and his team aim to improve the athletic performance of everyone who walks through their doors. Depending on each client’s needs, we can target specific problem areas or offer a full body program.
The Concord team, comprised of Cara Boggs, Tracy Brennan, and Karen Kenney, works directly with patients. They will soon be adding new staff members to strengthen their team.
“The most important thing is that they are good people. I always say that the most important thing to me is that you are a good person and that you can build a relationship with someone,” Lavallee said. said. “When we bring together people who are passionate about what they do and genuinely want to help people, our work changes lives.”
Our staff has extensive experience in everything from mental health services to yoga, physical therapy, and marathon preparation. Flexi expects the team’s diverse expertise to provide a personalized experience for each customer.
“I’ve been a yoga teacher for over 25 years and have been doing Thai yoga massage for about 16 years. I owned a yoga studio in the city of Concord for 10 years,” Kenny said. “I’ve been an athlete all my life, so all these things are kind of a natural extension of what I was already doing.”
At the front of the studio, there are four stretching tables set up with massagers, pillows, and other equipment for different purposes. In the back is a room with weights and exercise machines for clients to work on mobility, strength exercises, and general training.
“The great thing about coming to a place like this is that there is responsibility built in, which is one of the first things a lot of people need. Setting your own hours and making time for yourself. It’s about understanding that you are.” It goes beyond self-care,” Kenny said. “We’re rooting for you, rooting for you, and we’re here to fix it in a kind way.”
Their customers range from young athletes looking to improve their performance, to bodybuilders in need of mobility, to seniors from all walks of life looking to regain movement in order to spend quality time with their families.
“Being able to not only help people in a physical way, but being able to share our experiences with people. If they’re struggling with food or addiction, or just stressed, we as therapists We don’t have any, but we can share our experiences. We like that it’s a calming place,” Lavallee said.
The grand opening of the new flexible studio at 249 Sheep Davis Road in Concord is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We’re pretty much fully booked for next week and then we’re going to have a grand opening and we’re going to have a lot of people, so we’re really looking forward to it. We know it’s good for everyone,” Lavallee said. he said.
