“My mom was a teacher. Her mom was a teacher. My mom’s dad was a teacher,” Dean says. “My mother was able to instill a love of math in me because it was something to work hard at and have fun with.”

Professor Eckerd’s new Associate Professor of Economics, Dean, combines expertise in mathematics and economics with a passion for innovative research. Although this is her first faculty position, her work already shows promise of great contributions to the field and to its students.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in both mathematics and economics from the University of Arizona, where she discovered her passion for economics. “I became obsessed with eco and how it could change the way we think about the world,” she says. She went on to earn a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Sciences at George Mason University and will complete his Ph.D. in 2024.

“My last semester in graduate school was a hectic time in some ways. I defended my thesis in March, got married in April, graduated in May, and moved here at the end of June to start at Eckerd. ” she explains.
