After long careers in the courtroom, older litigators are often well accustomed to dealing with tough cross-examination. But when an interrogation suddenly puts a spotlight on your ability to continue training, you may not be ready. Law.com spoke to lawyers who have worked on some of the biggest cases for decades to get a behind-the-scenes look at how they think about their role in the profession as they get older.

Wilmers-Lee says the job was tough. “It takes a certain amount of mental and physical stamina, and at least for me in my 70s, I didn’t have the stamina to look at myself in the mirror and say I was confident. ”
