United Kingdom (UK) Technology Secretary Peter Kyle has extended an invitation to Elon Musk as the International Investment Summit opens on Monday 14 October 2024.
The CEOs of Tesla and SpaceX were not invited to the UK’s international investment summit, which some people noticed, leading some to wonder if there was some kind of conflict between Musk and the government. But Mr Kyle dispelled rumors about Mr Musk and the British government, saying he was “absolutely willing to engage” with the billionaire. The UK tech secretary elaborated that Musk “has no inclination to do these types of events.”
“I want to send all my best to him as his booster rocket landed safely yesterday. It was an amazing accomplishment and I watched with slack jaws at the incredible accomplishment it represented.
Although Elon Musk has never attended any past investment summits held under the previous administration and does not tend to attend these types of events, I have been able to engage with him and see what he does globally. We are ready to talk about investment possibilities. It’s in the works, but I don’t know anything about it at this point,” Kyle said.

During the summit, US companies CyrusOne, ServiceNow, Cloud HQ and CoreWeave announced they would be building data infrastructure in the UK. Total investment from US companies overall will reach £6.3 billion ($8.2 billion).
“Technology leaders around the world find the UK a great place to invest, with a thriving and stable market for data centers and AI development.
Data centers power our daily lives and fuel innovation in growth areas such as AI. That is why just last month I took steps to classify UK data centers as critical national infrastructure, giving the industry the ultimate reassurance that the UK will always be a safe place for investment. Today’s investment pulse is a vote of confidence in the UK and in our approach to working with businesses to deliver sustainable growth for everyone,” said the UK Technology Secretary.
