Fayetteville Coastal Health Care System opened its first Virtual Health Resource Center (VHRC) on September 17th.
Veterans now have access to hands-on support, training, troubleshooting and other information on virtual care tools such as VA Video Connect, My HealtheVet, health apps and devices. VHRC offers telephone, video, and in-person consultations with medical technology experts.
In addition to being a resource for veterans, VA staff can turn to VHRC for support in incorporating virtual care tools into their daily workflows and clinical practices. VHRC experts hold regular trainings to keep staff up-to-date on virtual care tools and technology.
VHRC Manager Carlton Marlow said it took nine months to get the center ready to open. He shared that additional benefits of VHRC will help narrow the digital divide. “While our veterans are here, we are able to keep them up to date with the latest technology by providing them with education and hands-on guidance.”
Veterans can consult with experts to determine which virtual care options are right for their health and lifestyle needs. “Our veterans asked for this and today we are able to open the center,” said Executive Director Nikki Friar. “The next step in VHRC’s growth and development will be to leverage community partnerships to replicate this effort in veteran training and education,” she added.
