Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku
Time to get healthy
A little background
So this review was supposed to be up about two weeks ago, but some clumsy mistake here (that’s me, if you haven’t guessed yet) ended up misplacing two of the discs, which meant it wasn’t available for a while.
I didn’t want to let this go without writing a review, so I enlisted the help of my 11 year old son. Apparently he isn’t easily fooled by sweets or the mentions in this review (since when did kids become such hard bargainers?), but he was easily fooled by new video games (mothers and sons are alike, I guess!), so this review is a collaboration between the two of us (my son is all hands-on and communicates thoughts along the way, and I write it more coherently).
A unique collaboration
Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku is a unique collaboration between popular Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku and three other Vocaloids from Crypton Future Media: Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len and Megurine Luka. The game combines boxing with music to create a fun and engaging workout experience. In addition to the regular workout modes, Miku Boxing also includes a special “Miku Exercise” mode, allowing players to exercise to different Vocaloid tunes while punching, jabbing and ducking.
There are many different exercise options
A wide range of options
I was really excited to try out Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku, but the only way I’d experience it was through my 11-year-old son. What we both loved was the variety of options available. You can change the intensity of the workout, the music used, and the difficulty level. This means the game is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced boxing enthusiasts.
In fact, since this was his first time trying a console fitness game, my 11-year-old son decided to start on the beginner setting. I always think it’s best to start slow with these types of games.
Extensive statistics
Power through statistics
I love stats (and so does my 11-year-old son, so maybe it’s in his genes), so I can see calories burned, combos, hits and misses, and it even tells me my fitness age and score.
One of the things my 11-year-old son pointed out was that he wanted more male characters, as he felt like there weren’t enough options for characters that represented him and he wanted to see more male characters.
Right hook, jab!
Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku gameplay
Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku gameplay involves using both controllers separately from the main console and using their motion sensors to let the game know when you are performing the actions shown on screen. Because of this, the game can only be played in TV mode or tabletop mode, and cannot be played on the Switch Lite or in handheld mode.
The game was relatively responsive to the controller, without being overly sensitive or stiff in recognizing user input.
Conclusion
My 11 year old son said, “Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku was fun, even though the timing was difficult. I think it just takes practice. I wish there were more male characters, but this game was fun.”
It’s a real shame that a herniated disc prevented me from trying this game for myself, but I look forward to giving it a go once I’ve recovered. Hopefully I’ll be able to update this review with my own thoughts, but for now I think my 11 year old son’s thoughts will suffice. I’m grateful for the generosity of my 11 year old son, “Dex.”
Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku is available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop.
Final verdict: I really liked it
