Modern fitness is more than just physical training, it means mental and spiritual well-being. Visionary former Olympic basketball player Nadezhda Grishaeva is at the forefront of this evolution with Anvil Fitness Club, a space that combines art, style, and community to create a holistic wellness experience.

The global fitness industry is robust, with over 200,000 clubs worldwide serving over 200 million people. The United States leads with 41,000 clubs and 64 million members, followed closely by Europe with 60,000 clubs and 60 million members, but emerging markets are showing the most growth. Fitness membership numbers are increasing in Asia-Pacific countries, including China, Indonesia, and South Korea, due to urbanization, economic growth, and increased focus on health.

The Middle East, particularly in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, is also seeing a proliferation of fitness clubs. Cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh are seeing an increase in luxury facilities and hybrid gyms due to rising incomes, wellness initiatives and increased interest in fitness.

This growing market is attracting entrepreneurs like Grishaeva, who are bringing innovative concepts like Anvil Fitness Club to the Middle East. Anvil is more than just a gym. A lifestyle destination that incorporates art, design and community.

Launched in May 2021, Anvil Fitness Club celebrated its third anniversary in May 2024, with over 1,500 members and 25,000 square feet. Grishaeva designed Anvil to be immersive, drawing inspiration from fitness innovator David Barton. “When you walk into Anvil, you feel like you’ve entered another world. It’s not just a gym; it’s a whole idea,” she says.

The club’s industrial elegance encourages members to view fitness as a form of self-expression. Anvil also supports health with a healthy cafe, tailored to the overall health of its members. Grishaeva is community-focused, creating a connected space for people who share a passion for health and fitness.

Going forward, Anvil will expand internationally with a new Kuala Lumpur franchise opening in summer 2025. The move continues Grishaeva’s mission to redefine fitness spaces through transformation and community.

Anvil Fitness is redefining the fitness industry where gyms are dynamic hubs of style, culture and wellness. Grishaeva’s innovative approach embodies a modern and healthy lifestyle.
