In their first meeting since becoming league foes, Virginia Tech and Stanford will be looking to pick up an important conference win when they square off inside Stanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.

heavyweight battle
It’s no surprise that Beischur Tuten continues to dominate opposing defenses week in and week out.

Leading the ACC with eight touchdowns and 532 touchdowns, Tuten had his fourth straight performance of 100 yards or more and a touchdown last week against Miami, and the Paulsboro, N.J., native is currently , finding the end zone for each of his five touchdowns. Contests so far this season.

But this week presents a whole new challenge. The Cardinal rank at the top of the ACC in rushing defense, giving up just 76 yards per game and just one 3-yard gain per play. Stanford has only given up 305 rushing yards this year, which is good for eighth in the nation.

heading west
Believe it or not, Saturday afternoon will be the first regular season game the Hokies have played in the Pacific time zone. On top of that, it will be only the second time in history that Tech will play in the West.

Interestingly, Tech’s only West Coast appearance was also in the Bay Area, where the Hokies ended the 2002 season with a 20-13 victory over Air Force in the San Francisco Bowl.

Tech standout running back Lee Suggs rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns in the seven-point win, and quarterback Brian Randall completed 18 of 23 for 177 yards. won the MVP award.

quarterback question mark
It’s hard to ignore the Cardinal quarterback situation when looking at who will be ready to play Saturday afternoon.

Starting signalman Ashton Daniels is listed as questionable after leaving last Saturday’s loss to Clemson with an ankle injury, forcing Stanford to turn to junior backup Justin Lamson. Maybe. Justin Lamson had 4 hits for 8 at bats in a 40-14 loss to the Tigers. .

Tech teams have faced similar situations so far this year. In the Hokies’ 37-17 loss to Old Dominion, starter Grant Wilson struggled, forcing the Monarchs to turn to backups Colton Joseph and Quinn Henicle. Tech kept the pair in check, combining for 6-of-14 hits for just 50 yards and no scores.
