The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is currently accepting applications for its 2025 Career Academy, giving high school students who want to jump into a career in natural resources a great opportunity this summer.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now inviting applications to the 2025 Career Academy, a week-long summer camp for current 10th and 11th graders interested in exploring careers in the natural resource management field. Applications are accepted until November 15th. The academy will be held from July 20-26, 2025 at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield and the Jekyll 4-H Center on Jekyll Island.
The DNR Career Academy offers students the opportunity to learn about a variety of natural resource careers, including habitat management, law enforcement, state park hospitality, fisheries and wildlife management, and coastal conservation. They work with experts in the field and receive hands-on training from game wardens, park rangers, wildlife, fisheries and marine technicians, and biologists. Students travel throughout the state, visiting wildlife management areas, state parks, fish hatcheries, historic sites, and the Georgia coast.
In addition to learning about careers in natural resources, students have the opportunity to make connections with current DNR employees and learn about their career paths. Students may also choose to earn dual enrollment credits that can be used in many professional schools’ Fish and Wildlife and Conservation programs.
“The DNR Career Academy is a great opportunity for students to learn about the variety of exciting careers available in the field of natural resource management,” said Georgia Department of Natural Resources Secretary Walter Labon. “Students will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and gain valuable practical experience. We encourage all interested students to apply.”
The 2025 DNR Career Academy application period ends November 15, 2024. Students must apply online at GaDNR.org/CareerAcademy.
