Tre Harris has been the WR1 since enrolling at Ole Miss and is coming off a 900-yard season in 2023 that was followed by well over 600 yards receiving this fall.
Harris is the No. 1 target for quarterback Jackson Dart, and Dart didn’t hesitate to give him a chance last night, leading the Rebels to a 52-13 win over Georgia Southern.
“When you have the best receiver in the country, you want to give him as many opportunities as you can,” Dart said after the game. “He’s been good from the moment he got here.”
Tre Harris’ 225 yards didn’t just come on deep passes. Harris is the safety valve for this offense, and through the last four games he’s faced a lot of weak coverage. With the agility of NFL-famous receiver Amari Cooper, Harris will be tough to beat.
That being said, Harris still has the ability to dominate opponents, as evidenced by his 40-yard pass that put the Rebels in range just seconds into the game.
Harris finished the night with 11 catches for 225 yards and two scores. Though he set a career high in receiving yards on Saturday, Harris said that’s not his mindset every week. He just wants to be the best version of himself.
“I just go out there and execute the game plan and play the best I can,” Harris said after the game. “I just try to go out there and not worry about who’s in front of me. I just try to play my game and try to get an advantage as much as I can. That’s my goal and that’s been my goal all year.”
After the game, Harris wore a “Humility Over Hype” shirt, fitting his persona. Though his performance was great, he was still frustrated by several dropped passes and an offensive pass interference call that would have given him another touchdown catch.
Still, this Ole Miss offense revolves around Tre Harris, and it will be interesting to see how the defensive coordinator manages his playmaking ability. Double-team him and the Rebels can beat you in other parts of the game.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting week around Oxford with SEC action starting Saturday at 11 a.m. CST against the Kentucky Wildcats. The game will be televised on ABC.
