The Ghana-India Kofi Annan ICT Center of Excellence (GI-KACE) is partnering with the Ministry of Communications and the World Bank to help young people acquire digital skills.

The first phase of the program will begin on October 14, 2024, targeting the Greater Accra, Volta, Upper West, Eastern, Western North, Northern, Central, Ashanti, Bono and Bono East regions.

A statement released by the Center on Friday, October 4, 2024, announced a strategic collaboration aimed at closing the digital skills gap in marginalized communities in the country.

“The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) and the World Bank to create, enhance and sustain digital vocational skills among Ghanaian youth. We are proud of this initiative, eskills4Jobs, which aims to close the digital skills gap and foster inclusive digital careers among marginalized communities.

The center noted that the partnership is expected to create jobs and stimulate the digital economy.

“The ‘eskills4Jobs’ initiative aims to increase employability, foster quality job creation and stimulate innovation across the digital economy. By addressing the specific needs of marginalized groups, , this program not only contributes to the empowerment of individuals, but also strengthens the region’s digital entrepreneurship “ecosystem and talent base”, he added.

Additionally, the initiative is expected to empower women and marginalized groups by providing customized digital skills training.

“As a commitment to inclusivity, eskills4Jobs provides customized digital skills training for women and people with disabilities to improve access to and use of digital technologies. “It will enable people with disabilities to actively participate in a wider range of work and ensure that no one is left behind in the digital revolution.”
