SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Editorial News Release/KY3) – The Springfield-Greene County Health Department (SGCHD) has officially launched its 2024-25 Influenza Season Dashboard.
Influenza season usually begins around early October. During flu season, SGCHD updates this dashboard weekly with the number of cases in Greene County. In the past two weeks, Greene County has reported 15 influenza cases.
The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is encouraging local residents to choose vaccination this flu season. Vaccination remains the best protection against influenza. Although vaccination does not prevent infection in all cases, it has been shown to reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization.
The influenza vaccine is recommended for everyone over 6 months of age. It is important to get vaccinated early, before the peak winter season. After vaccination, it takes about two weeks for the body to develop antibodies against influenza.
Influenza vaccines are widely available in Greene County. At Vaccines417.com, you can learn more about the flu vaccine and find where you can get vaccinated.
