GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Greenville Technical College is restructuring its paramedic program in conjunction with the Greenville County Paramedic Training Program.
The university said the program will be transferred to the Corporate and Continuing Education Department and instruction will be provided by Greenville County EMS.
Greenville Tech and Greenville County have offered separate paramedic programs in the past, but this approach has not had a significant impact on the paramedic shortage.
The South Carolina Emergency Medical Association recommended a new strategy that includes both education and on-the-job training for employees hired by Greenville County Emergency Medical Services.
The county will be able to employ students in training, and Greenville Tech hopes this will lead to more students being employed in the field by the time they graduate.
Paramedic certification is also offered through this partnership.
Greenville County EMS’ current certification exam pass rate is 100% for the past two years.
Greenville Institute of Technology announced that it is currently meeting with students in the previous program and is working to find full-time faculty for the old program and staff to fill other roles at the university.
The partnership is part of a one-year agreement. If a problem arises, adjustments will be made from the end of the original contract.
