Vice President Kamala Harris is comparing her age to former President Donald Trump and questioning his ability to handle the rigors of his next term in the White House. During a visit to Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ms. Harris addressed media reports that Mr. Trump, 78, was suffering from campaign fatigue and cited several scheduled interviews that had fallen through. “I see at least his team saying he is suffering from fatigue,” she said, highlighting the demanding nature of the presidency.
Former President Donald Trump has agreed to an interview, but a date has not been finalized. As Politico reported, advisers say this is because the Republican presidential candidate feels “exhausted.” President Trump is reportedly in talks about a sit-down interview with The Shade Room, a popular media outlet aimed primarily at young and black audiences. But after weeks of not scheduling dates, President Trump’s advisers say Shade is “exhausted and refusing (some) interviews, but that could change at any time.” I told the producer of the room.
Following the report, a Trump campaign spokesperson denied the claims as “patently false,” according to CBS News. Harris argued that if Trump is truly exhausted from campaigning, it raises concerns about his fitness to serve as president. “That’s a fair question,” she said. “If he can’t handle the rigors of campaigning, that’s a concern.”
President Trump has not released his recent medical records, insisting that all information about his health has already been made public. His campaign has maintained that he is in “perfect and excellent health,” a claim he reiterated while campaigning in Michigan. In November 2023, President Trump shared a letter from his osteopathic doctor stating that he had been tested in September and was found to be in good overall health, but the letter did not include any information on his vitals or medications. No details were included. “I’ve taken the exam five times in the last four years,” he told CBS News.
Asked whether he had released all of his medical records, Trump demanded that Harris take a cognitive test, saying, “I want to see her take a cognitive test, because she wasn’t born smart.” Because I couldn’t do it.” He further claimed that he had “spent 48 days without rest,” adding, “I don’t even feel tired. I’m really excited.”
During his hush money trial in New York earlier this year, Trump was reportedly seen falling asleep at the defense table during witness testimony. According to NBC News, he denied the allegations and claimed in a post on Truth Social, “I’m just going to close my beautiful blue eyes, listen intently at times, and take it all in!!!”
If Trump is elected, he will be the oldest president to hold office. In contrast, Harris recently released a letter from her doctor confirming that she is in “very good health” and has the physical and mental resilience necessary for the role. Her doctor, Dr. Joshua Simmons, said her latest test results were unremarkable and she had no significant medical history.
Additionally, more than 230 doctors, nurses and medical professionals – many of whom support Harris – have called on President Trump to release health records that they describe as “alarming features of vision loss.” expressed concern about the calls. Without detailed medical records, the letter argues, the public can only make inferences based on Trump’s public appearances.
