He may be famous for appearing in hundreds of movies over the past 50 years, but Harrison Ford’s career trajectory was largely different.
The 82-year-old actor made the revelation during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Wednesday, Oct. 9, said he used to be a chef.
Ford said he worked in a professional kitchen for a “relatively short period of time before people found out about me and got me fired.”
In an anecdote he shared with host Kimmel, 56, the Star Wars actor revealed what led to his exit.
“My first job was cooking in a hospital. I don’t know what I told them, but they handed me a knife and a bunch of carrots and within minutes they cut off this part of my finger. ” said Ford. “But there was a department right down the hall where you could get your fingers sewn back together, and right after that there was a place where you were fired for lying[about knowing how to cook].”
Ford also reminisced about other jobs he had before hitting the big time in Hollywood.
“I worked on a yacht owned by the youngest bank president in Chicago at the time. He had a yacht and boutonnieres and was a nice guy, but he didn’t know much about cooking.” he said. “But he was the heir to the Swift meat processing plant, so all I had to do was buy beef, which was very expensive.”

Although Ford has left his career aspirations in the kitchen, his pursuits as an actor have been far more successful. His long list of credits includes iconic roles in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Blade Runner series.
However, the star previously admitted that it was difficult to balance a successful and high-profile career as an actor with the demands and responsibilities of fatherhood.
