BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech earned a point on the road Thursday night with a 0-0 tie with Miami at Cobb Stadium.
It was the Hokies’ seventh shutout of the season. Tech is currently tied at 3-1-1 in ACC play.
how did it happen
The Hokies had several good chances in the first half. Sarah Rosenbaum made a nice pass to Natalie Mitchell in the 18th minute, but her shot couldn’t find the back of the net. Mitchell also tried to take the lead in the 34th minute with a rocket from just outside the goal 18-yard box, but it just went over the crossbar.
Tech controlled most of the first half, leading 8-1 in shots and winning two corner kicks through the first 45 minutes.
The Hurricanes came back in the second half and put relentless pressure on the Hokies, outscoring Tech 12-5. However, the Hokie defense remained solid and continued to keep Miami off the board.
Two saves from Lauren Hargrove and two great defensive plays from Allie George kept the Hurricanes scoreless for the final 12 minutes, and the Hokies finished tied 0-0.
It was the Hokies’ seventh shutout of the season.
